Gun-Shy Sunshine/Make Believe Review (#MusicMonday)

Getting back to my reviews of the songs from Silversun Pickups’ Neck of the Woods album: today’s  Music Monday feature’s “Gun-Shy Sunshine” and “Make Believe.”

The tempo of  “Gun-Shy Sunshine” is relaxed and helps create a dreamscape kind of mood, completed only by Brian’s whimsical vocals. It seems to tell the tale of a relationship that’s best left forgotten, but any number of stories can be found in SSPU’s lyrics, which is half the fun.

“Make Believe” starts with a familiar set of guitar notes, something that sounds like visiting your hometown. But it quickly moves into a haunting tone-one that reminds me of Scooby-Doo, but that’s if Fred is played by Leonardo DiCaprio.

They aren’t my favorite songs on the album; they’re not even in the top 5, but they’re still great songs. I think that says a lot about the album and SSPU, for sure. Enjoy.
