Drowned

A little flash-fiction quickie with the #55WordChallenge hosted by Lisa Hollar on her site. A little recap:

The challenge begins at noon Eastern time every Wednesday and ends at noon Thursday. The story is based on one of three photo prompts and can be written in any genre you choose. The story is to be posted in the comment section below, along with your twitter handle or email address, so [Lisa] can contact you if you are the winner.

Picture prompt seen here. And I came up with “Drowned,” seen below.

I sat on a car for at least nine hours. After that, my cell died. The water was scariest in the night, when the waves were only shrugging walls of shadows, reaching for my torn sneakers. But in the daylight, it was tragic. Everything I’d known was washed away, swallowed by dark mouths, like me.
