Hello, Sunday and hello, Six Sunday Readers. Hope your weekend has been going well and that you’re at least partially ready to return to work tomorrow. :) So, Six Sentence Sunday is:
- You pick six (6) sentences from anything you’ve written–a work in progress (wip), something under submission, something sold; something new, something old.
- You sign up at the Six Sunday website Tuesday starting at 6PM EST.
- You post it on Sunday (along with posting a link of suxisunday.com)! Such as I have below.
- And then you enjoy.
And I’m sharing snippets from a wip called Countdown, in which a young woman is doing everything she can to save her floating city from being “decommissioned,” or dropped from the sky.
Last week, during royal advisor Ethan Saar’s explanation of the reach of Zoe’s actions, he asks her what she thinks of her king. Such a dangerous question. What will she say? Let’s see:
“What?” she asked, finally looking up at him.
“What do you think of our King, his practices?” He leaned forward as she arched her eyebrow. “Just between us, honestly.”
She highly doubted that anything said here was honest; in fact, she knew it couldn’t be, that everything she did was orchestrated by the man sitting across from her, and even knowing that, she played her part: “He’s horrible.”
“Well, a war might get rid of him; in fact, it definitely would.”
That’s a good perk. Right? Maybe. We’ll see. Until then: more scintillating Six Sundayness.
Well, yes, but all that collateral damage could get a little messy . . .
Great six, as usual, Lisa!
And as usual, she’s not really thinking/caring about that. Thank you, Sarah!
Love the way the story is building. You write so well.
That means a lot coming from you, Cara. Thank you.
This is my first time participating in Six Sentence Sunday. I was intrigued by this snippet so I just looked back through some earlier posts, and this seems like a great story :-)
Well, welcome to Six Sentence Sunday! I’m so glad to hear that this snippet intrigued you and that it was interesting enough for you to go back. That’s a huge compliment! Thank you! Hope to see you around.
Nice. I like how that scene played out.
Thanks, Steven. Extremely complimentary considering how each of your sixes are like dripping with tension and mine is one, long conversation. ;)
Nothing like court intrigue! Great 6, JM!
Why, thank you, CC! Always appreciate seeing you around.
Somehow I have the feeling that while the king might come out the worse, Ethan wouldn’t.
That’s for sure. If there’s one thing we can bet on, it’s that Ethan will make out just find. Hahaha.
Intriguing snippet. Now is she going to regret what she said or not?
One of Zoe’s most outstanding and enraging qualities is that she is very focused. She leaves regret and concern far behind until she’s accomplished what she set out. So, at this point? Probably not. But it’ll come up.
yes i agree he’s defanately setting her up, and also wishes to start the war, maybe, he’s a good character and I have no idea of his motives
He can’t just be doing it out of the good of his heart? ;) Thanks, Sue.
No I doubt it. And if she’s as focussed as you say, he knows that too
She’s in a horrible position, especially since she clearly can’t trust anyone, least of all Ethan. Terrific story.
