Long Live the King

Hello, Sunday and hello, Six Sunday Readers. Hope your weekend has been going well and that you’re at least partially ready to return to work tomorrow. :) So, Six Sentence Sunday is:

  • You pick six (6) sentences from anything you’ve written–a work in progress (wip), something under submission, something sold; something new, something old.
  • You sign up at the Six Sunday website Tuesday starting at 6PM EST.
  • You post it on Sunday (along with posting a link of suxisunday.com)! Such as I have below.
  • And then you enjoy.

And I’m sharing snippets from a wip called Countdown, in which a young woman is doing everything she can to save her floating city from being “decommissioned,” or dropped from the sky.

Last week, during royal advisor Ethan Saar’s explanation of the reach of Zoe’s actions, he asks her what she thinks of her king. Such a dangerous question. What will she say? Let’s see:

“What?” she asked, finally looking up at him.

“What do you think of our King, his practices?” He leaned forward as she arched her eyebrow. “Just between us, honestly.”

She highly doubted that anything said here was honest; in fact, she knew it couldn’t be, that everything she did was orchestrated by the man sitting across from her, and even knowing that, she played her part: “He’s horrible.”

“Well, a war might get rid of him; in fact, it definitely would.”

That’s a good perk. Right? Maybe. We’ll see. Until then: more scintillating Six Sundayness.

    1. Well, welcome to Six Sentence Sunday! I’m so glad to hear that this snippet intrigued you and that it was interesting enough for you to go back. That’s a huge compliment! Thank you! Hope to see you around.

    1. One of Zoe’s most outstanding and enraging qualities is that she is very focused. She leaves regret and concern far behind until she’s accomplished what she set out. So, at this point? Probably not. But it’ll come up.
