So, Science Fiction Fantasy Saturday: a mouthful, a blog hop, a hive mind of the most geek-tastic brains out there. Some guidelines, a little welcome:
Welcome to Science Fiction Fantasy Saturday. On the surface, it’s a web ring of authors who post snippets of their work for comment. In reality, it’s a close-knit group of friends and colleagues working together to support and encourage one another and promote the science fiction and fantasy genres.
– JC Cassels, 2012Restrictions
- Absolutely no erotica or explicit content. This ring is for all ages to read. This is the founding reason for this ring, and any diversions will be removed from the final list on Saturday.
- Length of snippets:
- Prose: 4 – 10 sentences.
- Poetry: 4 – 10 lines.
- Any and all comments on the authors’ work are welcome, but please take care to keep them constructive.
I’ve been sharing snippets from a wip called Human: a tale about a detective who meets an android named Adelyn X. And can’t get her out of his head, which leads to trouble, of course.
Happy New Year! Felt so odd not forgetting to sign up till the last minute. :) Last week we heard more from Rome, friend to Jack. Jack is asking Rome for help to figure out what conspiracy, if any, is happening. Rome agrees and as the introductions wind down, Adelyn announces something surprising.
“I need to use the restroom.”
The men looked at her and then looked at each other. “The restroom?” Rome squeaked.
Adelyn narrowed her eyes. “Yes. I pee. I also—”
“Down the hall, second door on the right,” Rome yelled over her. She stood primly, smoothed down her grey skirt and walked down the hall.
More next week, but there are more snippets, and they’re awesome.

Adelyn is so cool and calm about everything, but I think she likes shocking her human helpers.
Definitely on both cases. Thanks, Misa! :)
Hahaha!! Excellent!!
Thanks, TK! <3
LOL!! She’s programmed for feminine wiles!
Nail on the head, JC. Lol.
An android who “primly” asks to use the restroom-I like her already.
Let’s see. Mass out must be balanced by mass in, so does she eat and drink also, to look human?
Yes, exactly. She is to be exactly like a human, undetectable. Thanks, Sue.
Ha! I have the urge to talk over my children, like this, all the time!
OK, that’s awesome, because that’s exact feel I was going for! Glad it came across. Thanks, Cassandra.
Adelyn continues to surprise! Who knew?
Glad I’m still surprising you. Hopefully, in a good way…:)
Brilliant!
:D Heidi
Thanks, Heidi!
Hah! That’s one way to break a conversation!
Does she gain anything from food and drink?
Energy, just like we do. And yes, if you want to halt a conversation, have an android excuse herself to the restroom. :)
Great dialogue, with some interesting subtext that I can’t quite put a finger on, but that sets me on edge for the next part. ‘All is not well’ would be kind of scratching the surface.
Another fantastic compliment from you, EP. Dialogue is fun to write, particularly for this, and I love that I wasn’t making up the subtext I was trying to portray. :D
