King Wizard

There are a handful of reasons to not like Kid Cudi, or his music. I can’t seem to come up with any that will stop me from listening to it, though. And “King Wizard” is prime example of why, and reason number two why I’m so excited about his new album. (Reason number one.)

There’s something that’s just so transfixing about his staccato rap in this song. His drawling tone wraps around a beat that is both militant and drugged, dragging its figurative feet in a way that forces one to think of dogged determination instead of defeat. And lines like “they’ll never take me alive” drive that conviction home, which is why I chose it for this Music Monday.

Enjoy. But be aware: it is the explicit version.
